KCAD - Graphic Design Concepts

Public Service Announcement Concept

For this project, I created a vertical billboard ad inspired by a childhood memory, starting with 100 thumbnail sketches, refining to 5 rough drafts, and finalizing one design, highlighting ideation, storytelling, and the creative process.

Overview

Objective: Develop a nostalgic yet modern outdoor-themed billboard promoting community engagement with parks through iterative design refinement.

Process Breakdown

  1. Concept Development (100 Thumbnails)
    • Generated rapid sketchbook iterations exploring layout, typography, and visual metaphors.
    • Collaborated with professors to identify strongest concepts through weekly critiques.
  2. Rough Compositions (5 Refined Markers)
    • Translated top sketches into marker renderings (Copic/Sharpie) to test color, texture, and composition.
    • Incorporated peer feedback on hierarchy, legibility, and emotional impact to guide final direction.
  3. Final Digital Execution
    • Photorealistic Rendering (Photoshop):
      • Sourced/edited high-res grass textures for tactile realism.
      • Custom typesetting to integrate "TOUCH GRASS" organically into the environment.
    • Contextual Mockup:
      • Created an urban display to validate scale and public-space impact.

Design Strategy

  • Tactile Nostalgia: Organic textures contrasted with clean typography.
  • Subtle Advocacy: Minimalist approach focused on emotional connection over explicit messaging.

Result

A visually striking billboard blending environmental realism with contemporary design, effectively advocating for park engagement while demonstrating iterative design rigor.
